Other Notes | “The Lion” is the first porcelain sculpture in the Carnival of Animals series, created by artist and designer Aleksandra Żeromska. The title refers to the musical suite “Le Carnaval des Animaux,” described by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns as a “zoological fantasy.” The suite consists of fourteen illustrative miniatures, each depicting a different animal. The first of these, The Lion's Royal March, was composed for string instruments and two pianos. The expressive nature of these musical pieces inspired the artist to imagine the personality, appearance, and form of each animal. Each sculpture is hand-painted by the artist and features a completely unique color palette. No two are alike, reminding us of the individuality and diversity present in nature. Special thanks to Susana Rodriguez, who sculpted the lion in collaboration with Aleksandra Żeromska, based on the artist's drawings. The sculptures were first presented at a special exhibition in Valencia, Spain, organized at the boutique and jewelry workshop of Vicente Gracia, one of Spain's most respected jewelry craftsmen. |
