The work belongs to the "Five Senses" cycle probably made for the private study of Augustus II before 1722. In addition to the presented composition, other works of this cycle revealed on the international art market in recent decades are known: "Sense of Smell" and "Sense of Hearing" (Sotheby's, London, October 1986, result: L16,000), "Sense of Touch" (Sotheby's, London, July 2000, result: L46,500).
